The Matthew Wong Foundation was established in 2020 in commemoration of Chinese-Canadian artist Matthew Wong (1984–2019). The Foundation is dedicated to preserving Wongs art and legacy and to fostering its study and appreciation. To advance this mission, the Foundation provides access to its collection of Wong’s artworks and archival materials, to support scholarship and the organization of exhibitions. The Foundations holdings are housed in its newly opened centre in Edmonton, Canada, where they serve as a resource for scholars and curators.

Key initiatives of the Foundation are the production of publications on Wongs diverse artistic output and the ongoing research for a catalogue raisonné of his paintings and drawings. The Foundation has also made significant endowments, including to the University of Michigan Art Museum in Ann Arbor to help launch a new internship programme, and to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to support its contemporary exhibitions. Through grants, the Matthew Wong Foundation supports both emerging artists and mental health organizations, including the Centre for Autism Services Alberta, Tourette Canada, and the Tourette OCD Alberta Network, operated through the University of Calgary.
The Matthew Wong Foundation will continue to preserve and promote the legacy of Matthew Wong with its new headquarters, which features an exhibition space and study centre as well as the artists complete archive. The Foundation has also preserved Wongs studio and materials in their entirety, all of which is now housed in the Foundations headquarters. The Matthew Wong Foundation will organize a rotating exhibition programme to encourage curators and scholars to explore new thematic concepts within and surrounding the oeuvre of Matthew Wong. The Matthew Wong Foundation will also host an artist residency programme. The residency will provide support for artists to live and work in Edmonton with the ability to access and research Matthew Wongs art and archive.

The Matthew Wong Foundation was founded by Monita Wong and Raymond KP Wong, the artist's mother and father. They serve as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Foundation along with their Board of Directors.
